Gransfors Bruk Twisted Splitting Wedge #460
The Gransfors Bruk Splitting Wedge is twisted with a grooved poll, beveled corners and a hardened tip.
Gransfors Bruk Splitting wedges are used to split really big, knotty or cross-grained logs. The Splitting Wedge is used in conjunction with the Splitting Maul which, with its weight and strong poll with beveled corners, is suitable for striking a wedge.

Note: All striking surfaces are subject to ‘mushrooming’ from steel hitting steel. This pertains to splitting wedges and the splitting maul. A periodic edge grinding or filing will re-profile so that the mushrooming effect doesn’t worsen to the point it starts to split the steel of the wedge. A bit more on this can be found on page 21 in the Axe book that comes with each Gransfors tool, including the wedge.
