German Oxhead Adze
Oxhead (“Ochsenkopf”) German Adze
Good German Steel in these ‘Ox head’ adzes.
We’re out of stock on these until early December…We do have (1) gutter adze with no handle on the shelf…Contact Us if you’d like to get on the ‘no obligation’ list or purchase a gutter adze with no handle…
Two styles available…
…might need final sharpening (most tools do), however, it’s a well made tool for the price.
- The flat adze is used primarily for hewing large amount of wood. Available as…85mm (3-1/4″)
- The curved adze is for hollowing out chair seats or other “hollowing out” tasks, or to give a pronounced adzed effect for decorative purposes…curved lip adze is also known as a gutter (as they were used to make wooden gutters), hollow, or curved adze. They have recently changed the angle of the cutting edge…to Scotty’s mind, this makes it a more usable tool.
- Handle is 31″ long, Ash, with a head size of approximately 1-3/16″ x 2″ for those trying to match another adze head. Comes unfinished.
- Price includes handle.
Notes; We’ve seen the Ox head gutter adze called a ‘curved lip adze’, however, we’ve always known it as a gutter adze or curved adze…whereas a ‘lip adze’ is generally a flat adze with small ‘wings’ at the sides that stick up, maybe 1/4″ or so.
