Drills and Bits

Drills and drill bits for log home and timberframe building, as well as log and rustic furniture making, are a different combination of tools that you would normally find in a typical shop. Drills come with at least a 1/2" chuck (the Milwaukee 1854-1 has a 3/4"), and auger bits are available up to 60" in length.

3/4" drive, 10 amp, 120v ac/dc 350 rpm reversing. Triple gear train, helical cut heat treated gears, chrome moly alloy steel, pre-lubricated ball bearings, extra long switch handle and pipe handle, glass filled nylon spade and switch handles, Jacobs taper spindle. 

This drill fits in the drill carriage/clamp systems used by log furniture and railing makers. Even professionals will work week after week without wearing this one out.

Note: This is not a drill that you pick up and hold while drilling without bracing yourself and the drill properly. Do yourself a favor and listen to what we're saying here. Use this drill in the Drill Carriage (when building log furniture and railings),  brace the drill in a manner that it "won't get away from you", or figure on "free-handing", and your day will come. (sprained wrist, bruised ribs or "tossed" off the wall. I once caught my 6' tall 180 lb. brother literally in my lap as the drill threw him from one log wall (near the corner intersection) to the intersecting wall where I happened to be setting some hardware as he predrilled the holes; and this 10' in the air).

Long Auger Style Drill Bits

These long bits are designed to drill through several logs at once for making electrical chases, drilling through-bolt chases, drilling truss pieces, stair treads, etc.  
Alloy tool steel center shaft assures extra strength
Set up for 1/2" drive drill. 1/2" indexed non-slip head
Self feed centering point. 
Double spur, double cutters. 
Continuous full length flite for chip removal. (flites come to within approximately 5" of the drill end of the bit)...thus a 40" bit has 35" of flites for moving chips.

Note: Don't expect the full length flites to continue to eject chips unless you occasionally (every few inches), "clear" the hole. i.e. pull the bit out to remove the accumulated chips. Due to the large flites on these auger bits it may tend to hook the wood slivers on the exit side of the log or timber causing it to screw it's way on through. This can damage the bit. To avoid this, do not force the bit when exiting. Switch drill motor from forward to reverse a couple of times working the bit in and out to remove wood slivers on the exit side of the hole. Smaller flites on the 1" diameter may load up. If this happens on any auger bit, the bit must be pulled out to allow it to clean. 
Do not force it! Due to the long length of some of these bits you can break them if you force them. There is no guarantee for bits broken due to excessive force. Use only with a low speed, (200-400 rpm), hand held drill. Do not use with hammer drill or impact type drill motor.

The Eliminator™ comes equipped with a standard general purpose lead screw, a carbide cutter, a hardened steel cutting spur, and a single hollow flute body milled from a single piece of alloy steel for strength.
The carbide cutter is brazed to a steel body with a hardened steel cutting edge. This combination allows the ELIMINATOR™ to bore holes in all types of wood quickly and easily while leaving little or no residue producing a clean smooth hole. The ELIMINATOR™ is self feeding and requires less torque. It can be used with electric, air, or gasoline powered drill motors and impact wrenches.
The Eliminator™ can be sharpened or completely rebuilt at the manufacturers factory in Florida.

Note: The manufacturer of the Eliminator does not warranty 7/16" Hex Shanks on wood bits over 1-1/8" in diameter...although we've yet to hear of a problem when used in log or timber work.
