Drawknives
- Inshaves - Bark Spuds
(peeling spud)
(Peeling and De-barking tools)

 Drawknives
Drawknives: (also called a drawshave). What type is best for your project?

Drawknives are used to remove bark and/or cambium from logs and to occasionally profile a piece of wood. (taper an end of a spindle). We offer several different sizes, weights, and styles of drawknives to meet all your needs. If you are peeling loads of logs for a house you may find the heavier drawknives such as the Montana Pro and the Barr Hand Forged will perform the best. The basic 10" and 13" drawknives as well as the Two Cherries drawknives are general purpose knives suitable for a few logs or smaller furniture and railing stock. The 4" drawknife is for fine detailing on furniture where you want to take off a minimum of wood.

And be sure to check out the Log Wedge and Lumberjack LogMate for securing your material while peeling.

NOTE: We also carry an Inshave that can be used in tight areas and when peeling smaller stock. Alternating between a drawknife and the Inshave allows you to work longer with less fatigue because you are using different sets of muscles. Additionally, we carry  Bark Spuds which are often used to remove the bark prior to drawknifing. This keeps your drawknife sharp longer as you remove the "gritty" bark with the Bark Spud.

Montana Pro Drawknife

Designed and built by professional log peelers in Montana. These heavy duty planer blade knives are constructed with ease of use and sturdiness in mind. Padded grips. Don't let the smaller blade size fool you. These knives are for professionals. Good for large logs.
Note: These have a different "feel" to them that sometimes takes an experienced peeler some time to get used to. Great knife, coveted by Pros, but the cut is made at a bit of a different angle that one is used to.
