Round Closed Cell Backer Rod

Round Closed Cell Backer Rod is an extruded, closed-cell polyethylene foam designed as a backing for elastomeric and other cold applied sealants, such as butyl, polysulfide, acrylic, polyurethane and silicone. To decode that for our uses, this is the stuff you use to seal the gaps between the logs (chink style log homes), and in the larger checks as a backing for the chinking or caulking.

Use of backer rod helps:

Control the amount of sealant applied for a proper seal. Produce the ideal joint shape, and eliminates the need for a bond-breaking strip.

Closed Cell backer rod is normally gray in color and is available in dimensions from 1/4" up to and including 1". It is available in 25' increments, Handi Paks, and Reels. Footage of backer rod in a Handi Pak or Reel varies with the diameter of the backer rod.

Handi-Paks are small enough in size to ship at their actual weight of 4 lbs. The larger Reels, are oversize and ship as 30 lb. weight.
